Workshops & Courses

I had the very good fortune to discover Charlotte Bellamy and her courses. A certified Master Craftsman at the Guild of Photographers (a collection of top-flight photographers in the UK), Charlotte is a skillful, enthusiastic teacher, and I became a willing pupil.

Taking on three of Charlotte’s programs, I soaked up all she could tell me about Woodland Photography, about Intentional Camera Movement (or ICM) and about assembling a major Project for exhibition. The bottom black-and-white images were the ones I exhibited, and if you’d care to see my fellow participants’ projects (they were amazing!), you can find them here: My Project, My Journey 2025.

ICM became a particular joy of mine. The idea is to leave the shutter open for a while and move the camera about, basically painting light over the sensor in swirls and patterns. The results may not be to everyone’s cup of tea - but they are to me. To say you need to kiss a lot of frogs to find an ICM prince is an understatement. There is a degree of randomness to the whole exercise, and I discovered I needed a large measure of patience before an image comes out the back of my camera that creates the ‘feel’ that I want. But fun? One-hundred percent. Thank you , Charlotte!
